WORLDVOIP phone service will work with any High-Speed Broadband Internet Service Provider, Cable or DSL. Companies such as Adelphia, ATT, MCI, Comcast, QWEST, Verizon and Earthlink all provide broadband service that is compatible with the WORLDVOIP phone service. WORLDVOIP requires a minimum of 80kbps at its slowest settings both upload and download. It is recommended that you have 90 Kbps to achieve peak quality of service.

Internet Connection

I can't access the internet through the Linksys Phone Adapter.

Check to see if your Phone Adapter is working properly and that you have connectivity between your PC and the Phone Adapter by checking the Internet port and Ethernet Ports on the back of the Phone Adapter. The power light and phone lights should stay solid green, while your Internet light may blink. If that doesn't fix the issue, check to make sure that your Cable/DSL modem is working properly by following the troubleshooting procedure provided by your Internet Service Provider. If you are still unable to access the Internet after verifying that all of your equipment is working properly contact WORLDVOIP Customer Care by phone

How do I configure my WORLDVOIP  service for use with DSL?

Installation with the Linksys RT31P2 Phone Adapter

Note: This configuration is for the Linksys RT31P2 Phone Adapter.

1.       Disconnect the power from all devices on your network. This includes your Cable/DSL modem, and computer.

2.       Disconnect any USB cables from the Cable/DSL modem, if present.

3.       Connect an Ethernet cable from the Cable/DSL modem’s Ethernet port to the WAN port on the Phone Adapter.

4.       Connect an Ethernet cable from the PC port, on the Phone Adapter, to the Ethernet port, on the computer.

5.       Connect the appropriate Power cable to the Cable/DSL modem.

6.       Wait about two minutes for the Cable/DSL modem to boot up, before continuing.

7.       Connect the Power cable provided with the Phone Adapter to the POWER port on the Phone Adapter.

8.       Wait at least five minutes for the Phone Adapter to boot up. The Phone Adapter's lights will remain off or blink until it has fully connected to the WORLDVOIP  network. There may be updates that need to be downloaded such as new firmware or changes to your features. Do not interrupt the configuration process by unplugging the power or lifting the receiver on your phone during the startup process. Interruption of the startup may result in interruption of service.

9.       Once the Phone Adapter's light is on and solid, the Phone Adapter is ready to use.

10.     Connect a telephone to the PHONE 1 port of the Phone Adapter using a standard phone line.

11.     Pick up your telephone receiver and listen for a dial tone. If you hear a dial tone, you have finished the installation and can begin making calls

12.     Connect an Ethernet cable from the LAN ports on the router to each of your computers. Power up each computer. Your Internet connection should work as it did before you installed the Phone Adapter.

13.     If you have DSL, your DSL provider may require you to enter a username and password for PPPoE setup.. Not all DSL providers require PPPoE setup. For more information, please contact your DSL provider.

Internet Connection

Will my VPN (Virtual Private Network) work over the Linksys Phone Adapter?

Yes. The Linksys Phone Adapter can be used with a VPN connection. The Linksys Phone Adapter is setup by default to allow IPSec and PPTP.

What happens when I have a power outage or if I lose my Internet connection? Will my service still work?

911 Dialing, and WORLDVOIP Service DO NOT function during an electrical power or broadband provider outage. While you cannot control a power outage that actually disrupts the broadband Internet service, one method WORLDVOIP has found is to use an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)to continue to provide AC power to the cable/DSL modem, phone adapter and the cordless phone base station. A Uninterruptible Power Supply can be purchased at an electronics store near you.

WORLDVOIP also offers the free option of having a Network Availability Number. Now you don't have to be inconvenienced if your Internet connection fails. Your calls will be automatically forwarded to the phone number of your choice in the event your Internet connection is disrupted or your telephone adapter is disconnected

Does WORLDVOIP service work with my DSL Satellite Internet connection?

Yes, our service generally works with DSL Satellite Internet connections or any Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) device (i.e. your home router). DSL requires Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) authentication "username & password" to access the Internet so you will have to configure your WORLDVOIP adapter or home router for this service. There may be some latency inherent on a satellite connection or line of sight issues that could affect audio quality when making calls through the WORLDVOIP service. Our calls require 80 kbps of consistent upload/download speed to make and receive calls through the WORLDVOIP network.

Are WORLDVOIP connections encrypted between endpoints on the Internet?

WORLDVOIP employs best of breed security measures. A WORLDVOIP customer's account and phone numbers are protected by a unique security key that is used to authenticate phone calls from the customer's account. Therefore, your identity and profile information is secure.

Similar to traditional phone calls, WORLDVOIP voice packets are not encrypted. However, due to the nature of how data packets are sent over the internet, it is very difficult to reassemble such packets and listen to an actual conversation.

Unable to access the Internet through the Phone Adapter

If you are unable to access the Internet through the Phone Adapter:

1.              First check to make sure that your Cable/DSL modem is working properly by following the troubleshooting procedure provided by your Internet Service Provider.

2.              Next check to see if your Phone Adapter is working properly. To do this, make sure you have connectivity between your PC and the Phone Adapter, as well as between your modem and Phone Adapter, by checking the WAN and PC port on the back of the Phone Adapter. The green lights should be solid and the yellow lights should blink.

If you are still unable to access the Internet after verifying that all of your equipment is working properly, contact WORLDVOIP  Customer Care by phone at 1-WORLDVOIP -HELP (1-866-243-4357) for assistance.

I use AOL Broadband (Cable). Will my connection work with WORLDVOIP  service?

There is a simple test to see if your AOL Cable will work with WORLDVOIP . Simply check to see if you can access the Internet using an Internet browser. If you can reach the Internet without having to connect to AOL then you can use WORLDVOIP .

If you cannot access the Internet without first connecting to AOL, WORLDVOIP  will not operate. This is because AOL Broadband authenticates the connection using the software client and is not compatible with WORLDVOIP .

Does WORLDVOIP  support VPN connections?

Our service does support VPN. Currently our Motorola Phone Adapter supports only PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol. Our Linksys Phone Adapters support both PPTP and IPSec.

I use AOL DSL. Will my connection work with WORLDVOIP  service?

AOL DSL will work as it uses PPPoE authentication. Most consumer brand routers (including WORLDVOIP  telephone adapters) handle this type of connection.
